 Our September meeting was held on Monday, the 14th at Carol's home.  We collected things for the Days for Girls organization.  Our stake will be doing a large service project with Days for Girls in November.

 It was delightful to see the combinations come together to make these beautiful garlands for the tree.

 This was easier than getting out a measuring tape - a little over five feet!  (And only twenty more to go!

Just a Little Bit More Love ~ June 2014

On Monday, June 2nd, eight of us met at Ardis' home.  We cut and sewed a couple of dozen Christmas stockings in preparation for the Festival of Trees. that will be held Dec 3-6 2014.

 The missionary stockings are made of felt and made to look like a white shirt and tie on the front. Lynn adds a cute missionary badge to each one.  The stockings have been a popular item at the Gift Shoppe at the Festival.

Supplies for Days for Girls

 We also helped make some of the supplies needed for Days for Girls, an organization that helps give young women around the world education, safety and dignity.  They provide feminine hygiene kits to women throughout the world and help raise awareness through education.

Collecting items for the Food  and Care Coalition

We collected food items for the Food and Care Coalition in Provo, an organization that helps feed the hungry, helps the homeless as well as families who need a helping hand with all kinds of services. .

May's We Can meeting was held at Lynn's.  Our project was sewing sanitary kits for Days for Girls.  Melissa Clark from the Utah Valley Chapter of Days for Girls came and talked to our group about this wonderful organization and the important work they are doing. She brought beautiful large photographs of girls from Africa which were set around the room to inspire us as we worked.

 Melissa brought all the supplies we needed to work on the projects.  It was like a beehive of activity with ladies marking, cutting, sewing, serging, turning, ironing, top stitching, etc.  There were 12 ladies there:  Lynn, Barbara, Ardis, Paulette, Carol, Anne, Vila, RaeLee, Kathy, Paula, Carolyn, and our speaker, Melissa.

We collected two things (1) pillows for the homeless shelter at the Food and Care Coalition and (2) donations for supplies for Days for Girls.  We Can gave Melissa $105 for Days for Girls.  We turned in 8 pillows to the Food and Care Coalition.  I turned the pillows in on Wednesday, and before I got home, there was a message on my home phone thanking us for our pillow donation!  This was a wonderful meeting and a great project!

We had a yummy Mexican lunch (since our meeting was held on May 5 - Cinco de Mayo).

Our May We CAN meeting will be held on Monday, May 5th at 10:00 a.m. at Lynn Rawling's home. It is Cinco de Mayo . . .so bring your favorite Mexican dish if you would like to

 May's project: 

We will be working on feminine hygiene kits for girls and women in other areas of the world, where they do not have access to feminine hygiene products.  We will have a guest speaker from Days for Girls.org This is a great website that tells you more about the project.  You don't need to bring anything, but if you would like to donate $ towards the supplies she will bring for this project, you are welcome to. 

"What if not having sanitary supplies meant DAYS without school, DAYS without income, DAYS without leaving the house? Girls use leaves, mattress stuffing, newspaper, corn husks, rocks, anything they can find...but still miss up to 2 months of school every year. Worse, girls are often exploited in exchange for hygiene.  It turns out this issue is a surprising but instrumental key to social change for women all over the world. The poverty cycle can be broken when girls stay in school."  

We will also be collecting pillows for the Provo Food & Care Coalition this month.
